Two United states staff embassy convoy was attacked by unknown gunmen on May 16,2023 on a major roadway in Atani town, Ogbaru local government area of Anambra state.
The attack took place at about 3:30pm in the afternoon.
some reports claims the buses conveyed a total of nine Nigerian nationals, five of which worked in the Nigerian US embassy and four police officers.another account claims that the number of people conveyed by the buses remains unknown and cannot be ascertained. Four of the four people conveyed(two police officers and two embassy staffs)were killed and their bodies set ablaze while three others(two police officers and a driver) were kidnapped.
The United States National Security Council spokesperson had briefly addressed the issue stating clearly that no US citizens were involved thereby resulting in no hurt of US citizens.
The US department of staff later issued a statement on them working hands in hand with the Nigerian security to put the perpetrators hand on deck.
