The Nigerian National Democratic Party (NNDP), under the leadership of Herbert Macauley, holds the distinction of being Nigeria's first political party. Established on June 14, 1923 by Sir Herbert Macauley, it emerged in response to the opportunities presented by the newly introduced Clifford Constitution. Remarkably, the NNDP secured victory in three consecutive elections: 1923, 1928, and 1933, sweeping all available seats. Its dominance endured until 1938, when the Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM) surpassed it in electoral success.
In a subsequent development, Samuel Akintola, in 1964, appropriated and adopted the name NNDP for his own political faction.
