Joseph Sanusi Gbadamosi Adegoke Adelabu, popularly known as Adelabu Penkelemesi, was a prominent figure in Ibadan politics and the grandfather of Adebayo Adelabu, the current Minister of Power in Nigeria and former Deputy Governor (Operations) of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Joseph Adegoke Adelabu was born on September 3, 1915, in Oke Oluokun, Ibadan, Colonial Nigeria, to Sanusi Adeyege Adelabu and Awujola Ajoke. He attended St. David's CMS Elementary School, Ibadan, CMS Central School, Ibadan, and Government College, Ibadan, before receiving a scholarship to UAC Yaba Higher College, Lagos.
Adelabu served as Nigeria's Minister of Natural Resources and Social Services from January 1955 to January 1956. He was also the Chairman of the Ibadan District Council and later became the opposition leader in the Western Regional Assembly.
He tragically died at the age of 42 on March 25, 1958, in a car accident on Mile 51 of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway while returning from Lagos with a Syrian businessman.
